STNG ALERTS ::
Sue Vani poses with Kirsten Kendler and Zoe Warren after the three had their hair cut in Vani's class at Sprague Elementary School in Lincolnshire Nov. 6. They were donating their hair for those who have lost their hair due to illnesses.   (Dan Luedert/Staff Photographer)
When Sue Vani decided to give some of her hair to women struck with illness, she decided to make the donation an example for others. So the first-grade teacher at Sprague Elementary School arranged to have her hair cut during class, in front of her students. And for added effect, she recruited a few volunteers to give up some of their own locks.

Film gets screening for Lipschutz's birthday
At a 1978 benefit for striking miners, the late Studs Terkel sang the praises of Evanston artist and lifelong political activist Peggy Lipschutz. "Peggy Lipschutz is just as much a part of Chicago as Richard J. Daley ever was," Terkel said. "She's just known to a better class of people."
